The first curfew bell rang in Columbiana on March 19. 1900 at 9:00pm
The first county court was held in Matthias Lower's barn, July 26, 1803 "they had to move outdoors due to the neighing of the horses to render its decision."
The punishment to a man for stealing in 1814 was nine lashes on his bare back, three days in jail and a $9.00 fine.
In 1941 Keylor's Restaurant which was open 24/7, served as the dispatching service for the town Marshal (Barney Millen) and the Fire department. In case the marshal was needed, the Keylor's could pull a lever and red lights which were mounted on poles around town would light up, and the marshal would go to the restaurant to find out the problem. In case of a fire the Keylor's would push a button, setting off the town fire siren. The Fire Chief (Harvey Hisey) would then call for the location of the fire. The Marshal would work from 4:00pm until 2:00am. A few years later the dispatch service was moved to the home of Mrs. Hettrick who was paid $200.00 a month for her services.
William H. McGuckin replaced Marshall Barney Millen as "Chief of Police" in 1953.
